Who we are

We are InspiredByStanley.com. We are a family who love our late son who was born with Trisomy 18. Our desire is to share our experiences and perspectives with readers from around the world. The Website we have created is a simple one — its purpose is to inform, communicate, remember, and look forward. As such, the data we collect from users will be minimal and mainly geared toward enhanced interaction in the form of better content from us.

We are ordinarily private people who have decided to share Stanley’s story publicly so that we can inspire and bring hope to others. Understanding the need for privacy, especially when faced with tragedy and loss, makes us even more aware of the need to protect our visitors’ privacy.

Who May Use This Site

InspiredByStanley.com is designed adults who are interested in learning about our child who lived a beautiful, though brief life with Trisomy 18, not for children under 13. If you become aware that anyone under 13 has submitted personal data, contact us so that we can remove it.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

If you use one of our forms to contact us, we will receive and save the information you enter on the form so that we may contact you. If you subsequently indicate you wish to discontinue communication, we will respect your wishes.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, IP address, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, our website will automatically set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

Like most website owners, we want to know how well our site is doing and which sections are most interesting to readers. Therefore, metadata from visitors is collected by analytics services and then reported back to us in anonymous form. We will receive aggregated summaries of the number of visitors, time of visits, and more.

Who we share your data with

We do not rent or sell your personal contact data to other companies. Automated analytics services such as Google analytics or Semper Plugins provide us with anonymous data we can use to improve our Website and better plan to answer users’ questions.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue, as well as maintain continuity.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, law enforcement, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor data may pass through third-party plug-in services in order to help us with automated spam detection and website analytics. These interactions do not result in us collecting personally identifiable information.

Your contact information

You may contact us through our contact form on this website. In doing so, we will ask for your personal contact information (name, email, message, etc.) so that we can provide a timely response.

Additional information

How we protect your data

We use reasonable and appropriate physical, electronic, and administrative safeguards to protect personal data from loss, misuse and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration and destruction, taking into account the nature of the Personal Data and risks involved in processing that information.

What data breach procedures we have in place

As stated elsewhere, the only personally-identifiable information we retain is related to direct messages and comments. If we detected a security breach, our task would be to inform affected users so they can take further steps to protect their privacy.

What third parties we receive data from

We receive information from a spam detection service and from analytics services.

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

Any anonymous data we receive through analytics will be used to improve our interactions with you, the readers. Other than direct messages, the content will remain the same for users.

Industry regulatory disclosure requirements

When we decide to promote a resource (e.g. a book or a helpful movie) we will often participate in Amazon Associates’ affiliate program or another affiliate program. This does not result in a higher price. We may also provide links to websites we find to be relevant. Any recommendations we make are based personal experience and personal opinions, not professional advice.
